A door styled like an old carriage bay. The hardware underneath is still a modern sectional door.
Carriage-house styling means overlays, windows, and hardware that imitate older swinging doors. Most of what is installed now is still a sectional door that rolls overhead. Older homes in Newton, Brookline, Lenox, or a Cape village sometimes have a real carriage bay with low headroom. Those are measuring problems, not just a style choice.
Ask which face is proposed. Wood-look steel and actual wood behave differently in salt air and in snow. Ask which one is being proposed. Coastal towns are a reason to ask how the finish holds up. Inland towns are a reason to ask about weight and insulation.
Installation includes measuring, setting the door, adjusting it, and haul-away of the old door when that is the stated installation. Springs have to match the weight, which is often higher on a decorated door. That is part of the job, not an extra claim.
We offer a full warranty on doors. Ask what it covers on a carriage-style door, especially the decorative face. Ask how many years it covers.
The look is often applied to a sectional overhead door. A true old carriage bay has to be seen before anyone promises a match.
The estimate names the door being proposed.
