Norfolk County
Bellingham sits on the Blackstone River at the southwest edge of Norfolk County, closer in feel to Milford and Franklin than to Quincy. The housing mix is older village houses near the river and later subdivisions on the hills. Many garages are attached to split-levels and colonials, with a smaller share of downtown triple-deckers.
Bellingham calls often start with a spring bang in a subdivision colonial or a cable that let go on an older single door. Same-day service is offered only if the schedule can reach the town that day. Winters are inland Norfolk cold. The river valley can hold damp air, so wood jambs and bottom seals swell even when the hill lots stay drier.
Nothing about spring size is ordered from a photograph. The door has to be in front of us. Cars stay out of the bay until the door is square in the rails and the travel is quiet. A photocell lens covered with dust or cobwebs is cleaned before anyone replaces the sensor board.
