Rollers are the wheels that follow the track. Noise is a reason to call, not a reason to oil a bearing from a blog.
A roller that squeals, grinds, or has a flat spot makes the whole door sound sick. Sometimes the track is dry or bent and the roller is fine. Sometimes the roller has seized and the track is innocent. Telling those apart is the visit.
Steel rollers and nylon rollers are both ordinary. Nylon is quieter on a newer door. A nylon wheel on a bent track still wears. We do not rank brands of rollers or publish a count of how many a door should have.
Do not pop rollers out of the track. A door can drop when the hardware that holds it is loosened. If a roller has left the track and the door is crooked, treat it as an off-track door: stop the opener and call. Salt air pits steel rollers faster than a dry inland garage.
Leave the grease. If the door is noisy, call (781) 602-0737 and we will look at it.
Hinges join sections. Rollers ride the track. Either can be the noisy part.
