A rubber belt instead of a chain. Quieter, and still dependent on a balanced door.
A belt-drive opener moves the trolley with a reinforced belt. People ask for one when the garage sits under a bedroom. The belt does not fix a heavy door. If the spring is weak, the belt drive strains the same way a chain does.
A frayed belt, a trolley that slips, or a unit that starts and then reverses are diagnosis calls. Reversal is often the door hitting the floor unevenly or the spring no longer holding the weight. Opener repair covers that shared symptom. Belt-drive repair stays on the belt hardware.
A new belt-drive install needs headroom for the rail. Low basement bays and some older carriage bays do not have it. A wall-mount opener is the related conversation.
No brand and no price are published. John B.'s testimonial mentions an opener adjustment during a door install. That is one customer's note, not a specification.
It is generally quieter than a chain. A grinding door or a failing spring will still be loud.
Not always. Headroom is checked on site. A wall-mount may be the other option.
