The springs that stretch along the horizontal tracks, common on older single doors.
Extension springs run beside the horizontal tracks and stretch as the door closes. They are a different part from a torsion spring on a shaft above the opening. Older single doors are where they still show up. A break can leave the door hanging unevenly, especially if the safety cable inside the spring also failed.
Do not pull on a broken extension spring or try to reuse the stretch. The technician matches the replacement on site.
Balancing still matters after the spring is changed. A door that is light on one side and heavy on the other will wear the opener and the track. That check is part of the visit, not a published procedure.
Older single doors are more common in parts of Quincy, Brockton, and the mill cities. The repair itself is the same trade. Call for a free estimate.
We do not describe either spring as a homeowner project.
Many newer doors use torsion springs. The technician confirms which one is on your door.
