The spring mounted on a shaft above the opening, which carries the door's weight.
A torsion spring sits on a shaft over the door, not along the horizontal tracks. When it breaks, the bang is overhead and the door usually becomes too heavy to lift. Torsion repair is only that hardware. Extension springs, which stretch along the tracks, are a different repair, so the two jobs are not written as the same part.
The technician has to see the shaft, the cones, and whether one spring or a pair failed. Homeowners do not need to measure wire size before calling. Those facts are enough to start.
We do not explain how to wind a torsion spring. A loaded spring is technician work. The visit is replacement and balancing, often the same day when the schedule allows. If the break also damaged a cable, that shows up on site and belongs in the estimate.
Call for a free estimate. We offer a full warranty on doors. Ask how it applies to a spring, which is a wear part. We are licensed and bonded. Call if the paperwork needs the license number.
If the spring stretches along the side tracks, that is an extension spring, and it is a different repair.
