The wheels that carry the door in the track. Worn ones grind, seize, or jump.
Rollers are the wheels on the hinges, running inside the vertical and horizontal track. When they flatten, lose a bearing, or seize, the door grinds, shakes, or walks out of the track. A roller that has left the track is part of the off-track problem and should not be hammered back in.
Salt air pits rollers faster, which is why shore towns see this failure sooner than inland towns. A dry, dusty inland door fails from wear instead. The technician matches the roller to the hinge and the track. Ask which roller is proposed.
Replacing rollers is not a reason to loosen hinges while the spring is loaded. That is why the steps are not here. Cable and roller damage often arrive together.
Rollers are a parts visit when the door slab is still sound. If a hinge has torn out of the panel, panel replacement is the related job. Call for a roller estimate.
Worn rollers are one cause. So is a dry track or a door out of balance. The visit identifies which.
